La Molina ... a green oasis under the sun

La Molina is 14,000sqm of land with an old flour mill situated in a protected area of outstanding natural beauty. It winds its way along the river Trejo, a stream that carries water throughout the year. Tortoises swim in it and dragonflies bathe there. It is an oasis amidst the scenery of impressive cliff formations, which are home to a vast variety of birds. Deers are passing through the land, herons glide along the stream and eagles fly majestically in the skies. Mature trees and a very comfortable microclimate guarantee a pleasant stay. Winters are mild, with blue skies and sunshine. Summers aren‘t suffocating but pleasant with slight breezes and lots of shade that invite for siestas. It is not far away from dream-like towns, white pueblos, grand cities, the sea, the mountains, natural parks and protected landscapes. You can get there by plane, bus, train and car. It lies in the heart of Andalusia, in the land of light.

La Molina’s location is superb for a diverse range of activities.

The closest village— a short stroll away from the site, passing prehistoric caves and cave houses, is the beautiful Setenil de las Bodegas. One of the typical white pueblos, it offers charming plazas under orange and lemon trees, and a variety of tapas bars and restaurants, some of them built into caves or under over-hanging rocks.

The nearest town, 20 minutes away by car, is RONDA—a site of historic interest dating back to Roman and Moorish times. Here you can sample Spanish life and its culture at its best— beautiful architecture, museums, shopping, entertainment, restaurants, bars and cafes and of course festivals.

The Serrania de Ronda which is to the south of La Molina and Grazalema Natural Park to the West offer some of the most beautiful and varied walking in Spain. Many described routes lead you through colourful rolling hills of intense greens, soft greys, reds, browns and blues where olives and holm oaks grow. The area also offers rock-climbing, kayaking, canoeeing, spelunking, swimming, natural horse-riding, prehistoric caves with paintings and one of only two regular breeding sites for greater flamingoes in southwest Europe. The surrounding area is also well-known for its ‘White Towns’, the ‘pueblos blancos’, which have managed to retain their Moorish character despite tourism.

The grand cities of Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla, Cadiz and Malaga are all in easy driving distance and easy to get to by public transport.

The Costa with its miles and miles of beaches is just over an hour’s drive from La Molina. There you can indulge yourself in the Costa Life with its trendy bars, restaurants and shops.

And for anyone interested in taking a stroll over Moroccan bazaars or visiting the grand cities of the kings – La Molina is an ideal base. A train goes directly from Ronda to Algeciras where the boats leave for Ceuta or Tanger. Or you can book yourself a pre-organised tour (from daytrips to 2-3 days stay) with tourist bus tours.
